Leo married the love of his life, Opal (Smith), almost 60 years ago on February 10, 1962 in Dayton, Ohio. Leo and Opal were inseparable until the Lord called him home. His parents, Julia Lee and William preceded him in death, as well as 6 brothers and 4 sisters. 1 sister, Bonnie Fernandez survives him.
Leo leaves behind sons Barry (Shelley) of Beavercreek, Ohio, Gary (Shelley) of Grove City, Ohio and Brian (Teah) of Bellbrook, Ohio. 8 grandkids: Nikki (Jeremy), Katie (John-Mark), Brad (Mark), Jake (Evan), Natalee, Brooke (Nick), Maggie, and Julia. 4 great-grandkids: Hunter, Tristan, Stella, and David and many relatives.
Leo is also survived by his loyal canine companion, who never left his side, Uggie. From age 9-18,
Leo lived at the Ohio Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Orphans’ Home in Xenia, Ohio. Leo had very fond memories growing up at “The Home” and was a keyholder at the museum for many years. Leo was drafted and served in the US Army and the US Army Reserves. After his military service, he was employed as a Printing Press Operator at Drury for 20+ years. He retired from the printing industry in 1997. He then worked at several private Golf Courses in the Dayton area and Cardboard Heroes at the Fairfield Commons Mall.
Leo had a love for his family, playing golf, bowling, The Ohio State Buckeyes, Bengals, dancing, listening and singing along with 50’s and 60’s oldies music, spoiling animals, coaching Little League Baseball for his sons, and supporting his grandkids with their activities.
Leo never met a stranger and always left a lasting impression on those who got to know him.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, 02/01/2022 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432.
