Lillian was born on July 21, 1933 in Dayton, Ohio to Catherine and Robert Mercer. She graduated from Fairmont West High School, class of 1951.
She was blessed with a large family (8 children) who loved her very much.
After a life of raising her kids, Lillian re-entered the workforce. She retired after 20 yrs. with Meijer.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and laughing hysterically at all the antics of her kids and grandkids. She lit up a room with her laughter. She taught herself to play the organ, enjoyed making and decorating cakes for the family, painting ceramics and watching her beloved Cincinnati Bengals with Joe Burrow. She even had a fathead of Joe Burrow. She also loved sitting outside and listening to her favorite music by Tony Bennett, Engelbert Humperdinck and Barry Manilow.
Lillian was quite the DIY’er and could repair pretty much anything that needed fixed by reading a book.
Finally, and most importantly, Lillian was a great steward of God’s creation. She bought food, coats, hats and gloves for the poor and even built houses for stray animals, all while having to pinch pennies herself.
Lillian is preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Mercer, father, Robert Mercer, brother Robert H. Mercer, granddaughter Victoria Shafner, special friend Paul Dabrowski and her canine companion Thor.
She is survived by her sister, Janet Tunney, as well as her children, Rita (Joe) Kaveney, Dianne (Mike) Price, Greg (Dixie) Shafner, Regina (Mike) Pleiman, Mark (Karen) Shafner, Andi (Jim) Wolodkiewicz, Julie (Kevin) Hunt and Dave (Amy) Shafner. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren Matt Kaveney, Lyndsay (Chad) White, Jennette Price, Danielle Price, Dustin (Jessica) Shafner, Joe Shafner, Christie (Taylor) Wootton, Katie (Chris) Grabosky, Kelly Pleiman, Heather (Chad) Mackey, Amanda Shafner, Emily Shafner, Noah Wolodkiewicz, Ryan Hunt, Caroline Hunt, Morgan Shafner, and 11 great grandchildren.
