

Armstrong, Sam, Jr., age 91 of Dayton, Ohio, died Friday, October 26, 2018. He was born on December 25, 1926 in Dayton to Sam Sr. and Ruth (Huber) Armstrong. He is preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Joseph, and his wife of 65 years, Joan (Janning). Sam is survived by his daughter, Linda Hazlip; his 3 sons, Michael (Ruth), Bruce (Linda) and Mark; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was a 1945 graduate of Northridge High School where he was a starting guard on the school’s 1945 Class B. Ohio State Championship team. In 2010 this team was inducted into the Northridge High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Upon graduation Sam entered the U.S. Army Air Force assigned to Detachment A, 45th Air Supply Squadron in Germany. He was awarded the Army Occupation Medal and the WWII Victory Ribbon. He retired from NCR after over 30 years of employment. He was a long-time parishioner of the former Assumption and St. Henry Parishes. In recent years Sam was a member of St. Albert the Great. Visitation will occur within the alcove of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 3033 Far Hills Ave., Kettering on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed immediately by a mass of Christian Burial.
