Sonja Joanne Golden Dykes

Age 74, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Hospice of Dayton. Joanne is survived by her husband, William Lawrence (Larry) Dykes, her son and daughter-in-law David and Anna Kay Dykes, and daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Tim Adkins. Also surviving are sisters Irene Brooks, Carmon Gay and Denise Seaman, and brother Bret Golden, and (2) granddaughters, Katie Dykes of Spokane, Washington and Tori Dykes of Berlin, Germany. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, James F. and Imogene (Merritt) Golden, (1) sister Wanda Gail Golden, and (1) brother James Golden. She was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormon). She loved music, dancing, laughing, telling jokes, and playing card games with her family. She believed strongly in the power of prayer, and couldn’t go to sleep at night if she had forgotten to say them. She was a beautiful woman with a beautiful soul. She had a passion for many things, and when she tackled something, it consumed her wholeheartedly. At one point in her life, she discovered that she had a talent for creating water color paintings. She believed that God has given each of us a talent for something, and her talent turned out to be water colors. She loved deeply, and if you were her friend, then you were “family”. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Sycamore Hospital’s ER, ICU and East Wing for their loving care over the last 3 ½ years, and also the staff at Hospice of Dayton for their care this last week. She called all of you her “angels”. Visitation will be held at Tobias Funeral Home-Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. at Grange Hall Rd. on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 5 to 7 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 11 AM (church officer and Joanne’s cousin, David Scott, officiating). Burial will be held at Miami Valley Memorial Gardens (south of Centerville on Route 48). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
