

OSTERFELD, Sylvester J. “Red”, age 90 of Kettering, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday December 28, 2013 at Kettering Medical Center. Sylvester was born May 7, 1923 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Bernard F. and Elenora Doll Osterfeld. Preceded in death by his sisters, Marcella (Srode), Bernadette (Rhea), Helen (Dues) and Gertrude (Hodge) and his infant brother Bernard J. Also preceded in death by grandson, Justin Osterfeld, great-granddaughter, Ariana Osterfeld and daughter-in-law, Barbara Osterfeld. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Eileen R. (McMahon) Osterfeld and his children Paul J., Dennis J. (Ruth), Roger J. (Anita), Sylvia J. Bertke (Jim), Dale J. (Debbie) and Daniel J. (Dee). He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a plumber employed by the H. J. Osterfeld Plumbing Company and retired after 50 years of service. He was a member of Plumbers Local #162. He was also a member of VFW Post #9927 and the American Legion. He was a member of St. Albert the Great Parish for 63 years.
