The funeral service for Carlos D. Sturgill, 82, formerly of Trinity, Alabama, and most currently Muscle Shoals will be April 25, 2018, at noon at Roselawn Funeral Home, Decatur, with Pastor Ray Luffman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Sturgill who died Sunday, April 22, was born April 23, 1935, in McRoberts, Kentucky, to Thurston and Matilda Sturgill. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a retired minister, and also a retiree of Decatur City Schools. Mr. Sturgill devoted his life to preaching the word of God. He loved outdoor activities including golf but especially fishing.
Mr. Sturgill was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mabel Stokes, and his beloved wife of 54 years, Jocelyn Ann Sturgill. He is survived by daughters, Carla Horton (Hal) of Muscle Shoals, and Linda Draper (Carl) of Columbia City, Indiana; grandchildren, Bradley Horton (Amanda), Joseph Horton (Jenna), and Brian Weeks; great grandchildren, Braxton, Audrey, Bryant, and Amelia.
Mr. Sturgill is also survived by sisters, Florene Anderson, Helen Stevenson, and Jewel Clem (Gene); brothers, Dillard Sturgill (Peggy), and Dan Sturgill (Sharon), many nieces and nephews, and special friends of the family, Eunice Sturgill and Ben Vickers.
Pallbearers will be Bradley Horton, Joseph Horton, Al Horton, Dale Neely, Kevin Stephenson, and Roger Tate.
The family is thankful to the staff of Cypress Cove Nursing Home, Muscle Shoals, and ComfortCare Hospice for the care and kindness shown to Mr. Sturgill.
