

Doris dedicated 22 years of faithful service to Automatic Screw Machine Products Company in Decatur, retiring in August of 1991. Yet retirement was simply a new chapter for her servant’s heart. She went on to volunteer at Decatur Morgan Hospital for 16 years, contributing more than 2,000 hours of compassionate care. Whether offering a comforting smile, a listening ear, or a helping hand, Doris made a lasting difference in the lives of those she encountered.
She was a woman of quiet strength and unwavering kindness, known for her warm smile, gentle presence, and selfless nature. Above all, Doris cherished her family. She found her greatest joy in the time spent with those she loved—celebrating milestones, sharing laughter, and creating memories that will be treasured for generations to come. Her love was constant, her support unwavering, and her pride in her family immeasurable.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Bertha Peek; her beloved husband, John R. Boyd, Sr.; her son, John R. Boyd, Jr.; her brothers, Oather and Hubert Peek; and her sister, Almarie Moss.
Those left to honor and cherished her memory include her son, Kenneth David Boyd of Decatur; her grandchildren, Sarah (Charles) Brady, John Tyler (Audrey) Boyd of Madison, and Jaden Boyd of Birmingham; and her great-grandchildren, Nevada and Jackson Brady, and Rylin Boyd. She is also survived by her niece, Shirley Peek, great nieces Shawn (Monte) Hazlewood, Sabrina (Chad) Adams and Sharon (Steven) Porter of Athens, along with extended family and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
Doris will be remembered as a woman who lived her faith daily, who gave without expecting anything in return, and who loved deeply and sincerely. Her life was a beautiful reflection of grace, humility, and compassion. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Services will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home on Thursday, April 9, 2026. Visitation will be from 1pm till 3pm with service following at 3pm.
Pallbearers are Kenneth D. Boyd, Charles Brady, John Tyler Boyd, Monte Hazlewood, Rex Byars, and William Taylor.
