Evelyn Evon Deaton, 88, of Decatur, passed away on May 14, 2019. Celebration of Life will be Friday, May 17, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest in Roselawn Cemetery. Rev. John Chesser of Riverside Cathedral will be officiating, along with grandson Matthew Hamm presenting a short eulogy.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, William Travis Hamm, and her second husband, Arthur Thomas Deaton; parents, David Archie Parker and Edna Powell Parker; four brothers, Orville, James “Bud”, Jack, and Bobby; two sisters, June Hamm, and Eva Mason. And her oldest grandson, William Thomas Speegle “Tommy”.
Evelyn was born and raised in Red Bay, Alabama in Franklin County. Evelyn and Arthur lived in the Alabama area for many years due to his employment with NASA Space Center. She was a homemaker and loving mother with a strong church ethic. Later the family transferred to Texas to retire with the Johnson Space Center, ultimately returning to Alabama to be near family.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Hamm Owensby and Barbara Hamm Payne, both of Decatur; one son, William David Hamm(Celia), of Hartselle, Alabama, six grandsons, two great-grandsons, five great-granddaughters, one great-great-granddaughter, and one brother, Bill Parker of Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Daniel Hamm, Jonathan Payne, Joseph Hamm, Matthew Hamm, Stuart Owensby, and Tracey Speegle. One honorary pallbearer, Stanley Malone. The family wishes to extend gratitude to SouthernCare Hospice for their tender loving care of Mrs. Deaton. Roselawn Funeral Home is assisting the family.
