

MSG( R ) Gordon Wayne Horton died on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 5:24 PM at Huntsville Hospital. His visitation will be on November 7, 2022 at 1:00. The Celebration of Life will begin at 3:00 with John Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Liisa S. Horton; two daughters, Susan R. Hughes (wife Dar Hughes) and Elizabeth Lynn Chandler; son, Eric W. Horton, four grandchildren, Michael W. Horton (wife Aerial Franklin), Daija J. Milam, William G. Alexander (wife Tabatha Alexander) and Griffin J. Alexander; two great grandchildren, Eliana R. Horton and Trinity Pike and two brothers, Harvey S Freeman Jr (wife Alice Freeman) and Jimmy L. Horton (wife Mary Horton).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith M. McMurtry; father, Lonie Horton; sister Mattie Sue St.Antoine and brother, Henry M. Horton.
Wayne was born on June 15, 1953, in North Carolina to Lonie Horton and Edith Wilson Horton. Wayne enlisted into the United States Army as a Medical Specialist in February 1974, honorably serving for 20 years until his retirement on February 28, 1994, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He continued to serve with honor as a teacher at Albert P. Brewer High School as an Army Instructor for the JROTC program from 1995 until 2018. Wayne was also a very active member in all of the local veterans organizations including serving as Commander of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 11, Decatur, AL, from 2009 to 2011. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and son and friend. He was truly loved by all that knew him. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, socializing, and anything that included spending time with his family and friends.
Pallbearers include Michael W. Horton, Timothy W. Horton, Michael L. Horton, Arnold C. St. Antoine, Joshua L. St. Antoine, Justin L. St. Antoine and Joseph A. Jackson.
