

Funeral services for Mr. Henry Ray Thompson (95) of Decatur, AL will be held Thursday April 2nd, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Decatur. Pastor Blake Kersey will officiate with Roselawn funeral services directing, visitation at 9:30 am at First Baptist Church followed by the service at 11:30 am. Mr. Thompson will be laid to rest with full military honors in the veterans section of the Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his: son, Michael Ray Thompson, married to Mrs. Lynn Thompson of Trinity, AL. Their children are Caleb Scott Thompson of Montgomery, AL, Emma Grace Thompson of Trinity, AL, Charles Boyer Thompson of Madison, AL and Maggie Rose Thompson also of Trinity, AL. His daughter, Mrs. Susan Thompson Blalock, married to Mr. Joseph Hugh Blalock of Clay, AL. Their Children: Zachary Evan Blalock married to Angela Robbins Blalock, their children Kenneson Quade, Stella Lee, and Jude Henry Ray of Trussville, AL. Jonathan Michael Blalock married to Jasemine Sade Linson-Blalock of Birmingham, AL. Sarah Elizabeth Blalock and daughter Beatriz Lorraine of Foley, AL. Matthew Josiah Blalock and son Matthew Sawyer of Vestavia Hills, AL. Joseph Ezekiel Blalock married to Hadley Voudrie Blalock and son Banks Thompson Blalock of Trussville, AL. Joshua Issac Blalock engaged to be married to Miss Marley Grace Carmichael of Margaret, AL. Samuel Luke Blalock married to Alana DeRamus Blalock of Odenville, AL. Norah Katherine Blalock of Foley, AL.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Alice Thompson, and ten siblings of Chattanooga, TN. As well as his beloved wife Katherine Clark Thompson.
Mr. Thompson who died, peacefully in his sleep, in the early morning hours of March 27, 2026; was born on June 24 in the year of our Lord 1930. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served honorably as a S/SGT with the 315th Combat Cargo Air Division. After his time in the service Mr. Thompson worked for fifteen years with the Tennessee Valley Authority as a draftsman and engineering aide. He moved on to further service with the US Army Missile Intelligence Agency as an Intelligence Specialist, retiring in 1985 after seventeen years with the agency.
Ray, as known by friends, was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, as well as the men's ministry coordinator for the Morgan County Baptist Association. Ray was a lively member of the church and community; participating in the church choir for over fifty years and assisting in numerous church construction projects from his neighborhood to Hawaii. Kiwanis club where he served many terms as President and Vice-President. Mr. Ray enjoyed music and was proficient in several instruments. A skilled woodworker, he delighted in making furniture for his family and helping the grandkids with their models. A published author Mr. Ray shared his journey in his 2024 autobiography God Doesn’t Make Coincidences.
“My grandad was always smiling, he never met a stranger or someone he didn't have a joke for, he lived life fully and truly.” He loved the Lord, his wife and family; he was an example for all men and will be sorely missed.
