Jeffrey Alan Martin, 52, died June 26, 2011, at his home in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He was born July 5, 1958, in Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Jonathan Adam and his father, C.C. "Buck" Martin Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Rynd Martin; his mother, Dollyie Martin of Decatur; his son, Jonathan Graham Martin of Nashville, Tenn.; his brother, J. David Martin and his wife, Susan, of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; his sister, Susan Martin Phillips and her husband, Billy, of Sparta, Tenn.; five nieces, Kate Martin of New York City, Meg Martin of Los Angeles, Calif., Annabel Martin of Tucson, Ariz., Erin Alsup and Amy Alsup, both of Cookeville, Tenn.; and his stepchildren, Courtney Rynd-Nate, Olivia Rynd and Chris Rynd, all of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Jeffrey graduated from Decatur High School in 1976 where he was a member of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp. During his high school years, he completed his Boy Scout requirements for his Eagle Scout award. He then graduated from Emory-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla., in 1980 when he received an associate of science degree and a bachelor of science degree in aviation management.
Jeffrey earned his private pilots license at the age of 16 and went on to hold ratings for instrumentation, commercial, multi-engine, turbojet, flight instruction and multi-engine flight instruction. He then enjoyed a 30-year career in aviation reaching the status of captain. He flew for more than a dozen different companies including the Dallas Mavericks, Guess, Inc., Carnival Air Lines, ATA, Ryan International and Evergreen International. He flew both domestically and internationally, including throughout Europe, Middle East, North Africa, South America and Asia. He flew many different planes including a Boeing 727, 747 and 757, as well as managing several fleets of planes worldwide.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Decatur, where he sang in the church choir.
The family will be accepting visitors tonight from 6 to 8 at Roselawn Funeral Home, 741 Danville Road SW, Decatur. The funeral service will be Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Wayne Newby officiating followed by a graveside service at Decatur City Cemetery where he will be buried beside his father.
Pallbearers will be Drew Thompson of Huntsville, David Thomas of Chicago, Brian Jacobson of Santa Barbara, Bill Wood of Florida, Glenn Turney of Tennessee and Jim Parson of Tennessee.
