I am sorry for your loss. I enjoyed many days on the baseball field with Sgt. Shealy. He was a no nonsense guy who demonstrated to all of us Kids the correct approach to the game of life. I have thought of his example often over the years. He was truely a good example and we were all better men for having known him.

I, too, remembered Sgt. Shealy from my days at Lanier High School from 1969-1971. I was very fond of him and saddened by his loss. He was tough but fair, serious when needed but funny as well. He knew how to relate with his superiors as well as his students. He and my Dad had known each other from years prior to my birth and maybe it was from WWII. He was a great man, a man's man, no doubt! May God Bless his arrival in Heaven!

So sorry to hear of Uncle Jay's passing.  He was a very interesting man with a big personality and I will miss him.

Lynn and Larry, I worked with you Ms. Lynn at Georgia Farm Bureau from 1972-1974 and had fond memories of Mr. Shealy's bubbly personality and how the two of you loved one another.  I am sure each of you were blessed to have him in your lives. I hope that when you feel sad that you will look up to Heaven and remember he is now looking down upon you daily.  My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

Sgt. Shealy was our ROTC drill instructor at Lanier in 1969 B Co., and 1970, HQ Co.  He was strict but it was easy to see he had a good heart and cared about his cadets.  Those were some good times.

Sgt. Shealy was a wonderful mentor to me while I was a student at Lanier High School in Macon.  Later, I frequently saw him at J.C. Penney's.  We also were neighbors on Laura Ann Place in Macon.  He was a great guy and will be sorely missed.  Sincerely, Cecil A. Baldwin, Jr.

Sgt. Shealy was my favorite ROTC instructor at Lanier/Central, probably because he loved life and loved to laugh. My condolences go out to all of his family and friends. Charles Giles, class of 1971 Lanier-Central High School.

John was an outstanding ROTC instructor at Mercer University , Lanier Senior High School for boys ,and Central High School.
His former students are always asking me what I have heard from Sergeant Shealy--he was one of their favorites.
John coupled his military instructor duties with being an umpire for baseball and football. That booming voice behind the plate will always be remembered.
He worked under my direct supervision at Lanier and Central High School's both in the Regular Army and Retired. He was one of the best and most interesting military instructors teaching the basic skills of a soldier. His students shall always remember him as their "Sarge" as they go through life.

I am saddened by the loss of Mr. Shealy. I worked at Penny's with him for years and we shared many laughs together. He was a good man that loved his family and friends. The world has lost a great man...but Heaven has gained a soldier.

Dear Mrs. Shealy & Family,

I am so saddened to hear of your loss! Mr. Shealy became a dear friend to me, while I was the Head Football Coach @ Austin HS, Decatur, Al. from 1995--2001. He attended most practices and all games and would share his life experiences with our players, when I would ask him.  He became our Game Night Manager and would greet our opponents and make sure everything was set up for them in their lockerroom-he was a great ambassador for Austin HS! He also took great interest in our players and became a mentor to all of us. He was an inspirational man who had his priorities in order, God, Wife, Family, friends.  He talked often about his family and it was very obvious how much he loved you all! He also talked about his military career, working @ Macon Central HS, and about life.  He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke for me and loved to laugh. He was very genuine--true blue--what you saw was what you got--loyal friend and he will be missed greatly!  I pray that you will sense God's presence, peace, comfort, grace, and strength during this time and that your good memories of and with your husband, dad, grandfather will bring comfort in the days to come. Easter is God's promise that we will see Mr. Shealy again! I am grateful for his friendship and am thankful for his positive influence on me and my family--I am better because of him!

It was a honor to know this fine man and his wife, Lynn.  My prayers and thought are with Lynn and the family.  I know Trouper was there with open arms to greet his dad.

I worked with John at J.C.Penneys in Macon from 1975 to 1979. You couldn't ask for a better friend. Always laughing and enjoyed his work. Mrs. Shealy and Family I am sorry for your loss. He will be missed by those that knew him and loved him.

I have fond memories of "Sarge" from my time at Lanier Sr High School, as well as him refereeing ball games that I played in after graduating. I also remember him working security at J.C. Penny's at the Macon Mall, and stopping to talk with him whenever I passed through there and saw him. He was truely a man who cared about the students he mentored.
