

A visitation for Arlene will be held Monday, June 16, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 741 Danville Road SW, Decatur, AL 35601. A celebration of life will occur Monday, June 16, 2025 at 12:00 PM, 741 Danville Road SW, Decatur, AL 35601. A committal service will occur Monday, June 16, 2025 at Childers Mountain Cemetery, Childers Cemetery Road, Falkville, AL 35622.
Arlene is survived by her daughter, Crystal (Kenneth) Kingery; grandchildren, Jason Sloan, Sarah (Devin) Kerstetter, Martina (Kevin) Rojas, Kyle (Stephanie) Kingery, Jeremy (Anna) Sherwood, Tyler (Bailey) Sherwood, Spencer Sherwood; 20 Great-grandchildren; 1 Great, great-grandchild; and sisters, Wanda Dickerson and Georgia Howard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Stanley Jurges; son, Martin Ralph Sherwood and daughter, Tina Lynn Jurges; grandson, Steven Bradley Sloan; parents, Lemual Grover Childers and Lola May Heflin; and brothers and sisters.
Arlene was born in Priceville, AL in November of 1934. She graduated from Priceville High School. She lived in Michigan where she raised her beloved children before returning home to Alabama. She dedicated herself to making a beautiful home for her family with her cooking and sewing. She was a strong woman who loved to look her best.
She was a devoted Christian and member of Crossroads Fellowship Church.
She loved the story of Ruth and often shared Ruth 1:16-17.
“But Ruth answered, “Please do not insist on my leaving you or forsaking you. Wherever you go I will go, and wherever you live I will live. Your people will be my people and your God will be my God. Wherever you die, I will die and be buried there. May the Lord do this to me and even worse if anything other than death separates me from you.”
Arlene is loved and remembered by all her family and friends.
