
Mary Boaz Daniels, a long-time resident of Decatur, AL, passed away at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the early morning hours of March 25th after a courageous fight against cancer. Born on October 25, 1944 in Childersburg, AL, Mary was the only child of Inez and Walden Boaz. She graduated from Childersburg High School in 1963 and went on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Auburn University. She married Tommy Clark Daniels, also of Childersburg, on August 2, 1968 and had two sons, Brian Walden Daniels and Michael Clark Daniels. After college, Mary began her school teaching career in El Paso, TX where she lived and worked for two years. She and Tommy then moved to Decatur in 1971 where she lived for the rest of her life. Mary continued as a school teacher for more than 25 years and ultimately retired from Decatur City Schools in 2007. She loved to travel the world and was never too far from a good piece of chocolate. Mary was an active member of the community where she served as a past president of the Junior League and a member of the Decatur Assembly, among many others. She is survived in life by husband Tommy, sons Brian (Alisha) and Michael (Codi), and four grandchildren. Mary was a believer in Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Decatur, AL on Tuesday, March 28th. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 1:00 with the service immediately following. She will be laid to rest in Decatur City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her honor to the Decatur City Schools Foundation or PACT.
