Reta Ridling, beloved wife of Jerry, died on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Huntsville Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. The loss of her warmth and kindness, creative talents and generous spirit will leave a void impossible to fill.
She was a graduate of Austin High School and held a degree from Auburn University in Speech Communications and Theatre. Over the years, she both acted in and directed many theatrical productions. A minister's wife, she hosted many meetings, cooked numerous meals for various occasions, taught, offered dramatic readings and even preached on occasion. Her quiet, unassuming faith was a foundation for her life.
In recent years, her passions were quilting, with a specialty in artistic hangings, and her cats. She was a member of the Happy Hearts Quilt Guild, and a regular with her special friends at a Monday gathering of quilters at Wesley United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Ridling; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bittle of Trinity; a brother, Alan Bittle of Decatur; an aunt, Margaret Blackerby of Decatur; and an uncle, Harold Simmons of Birmingham.
Cremation is taking place under the direction of Roselawn Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to Animal Friends or any organization which provides care for animals, or to a charity of your choice.
