Richard took great pride in his family, all of whom were the joy of his life. He is survived by his wife, Susette; his children, Stacey (Larry) Norris, Jeff (Lana) Blackmon, Rick Seibert, Matt Blackmon, Katie (David) Flowers; his grandchildren, Kevin (Courtney Rose), Ryan, Rachel, Wesley, Caroline, Cole, Cooper, Cate, Aidalyn, Emery Kate; his great-grandchildren, James Andrew, Thomas Francis, Eleanor Rose; and one brother Larry (Jean) Blackmon.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Elizabeth Blackmon.
Born on July 29, 1943, in Montgomery, Alabama, Richard lived a life marked by faith, family, and quiet strength. Richard graduated from Lanier High School and went on to work for the telephone company. He retired from BellSouth in management after over 40 years of dedicated service, where he was respected as a patient, steady leader, and a man of integrity. After retirement he spent some time working at Quail Creek Golf Course doing what he enjoyed with friends who were like family.
Richard was married for 50 wonderful years to his darling wife and together they built a life grounded in love and commitment. He adored her and she cherished him.
A lifelong fan of Alabama football, Richard cheered devotedly for the Crimson Tide and never missed watching a game. From an early age, he was also an avid golfer, a passion he carried with him for decades—right up until he was no longer able. He enjoyed building things in his spare time. Whether working with tools, fixing, creating, or improving something with his hands, he found satisfaction in making things better. Old Gospel Hyms and bluegrass always put a smile on his face and playing them at full volume made his soul sing.
He was a dedicated and beloved PawPaw and took the most joy in that title. He loved holding babies and the innocence of children.
Above all, Richard loved God and lived by his faith, believing in salvation and hope through Jesus Christ. His kindness and patience reflected that daily. He was a man who listened more than he spoke, led by example, and treated others with grace.
Richard Morris Blackmon will be remembered as a measured man with a generous heart and unconditional love. His legacy lives on in his family, the lives he shaped, and the standard he set for all who knew him.
