Virginia McNeal Hughes of Decatur died peacefully in the loving, capable hands of USA Healthcare and Comfort Care Hospice on March 1, 2015, following a fall. She was born December 23, 1918, the fourth daughter of Mary Ella Frazer McNeal and Reverend Danial H. McNeal. She graduated from Huntingdon College and received her Masters in English at the University of Alabama and studied French at the Sorbonne, Paris. She taught English and French in the Decatur School System until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband, Yancey Hughes and her son Vernon and is survived by her daughter, Mary Virginia Hughes and her nieces and nephews and her close and cherished friends. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday March 10 at St. John's Episcopal Church with the funeral service following at 11.
