Al, as fondly known to those who loved him; was born in New Jersey to his late parents, Attilio and Faustina. As a grown young man, he served our country as a Seaman in the United States Navy. He met his future bride, the former Marie Luisi; while both they were vacationing in Massachusetts. What began as a “long-distance” romance (He from New Jersey and she from Queens) resulted in a blessed marriage of 53 years. In his years of work, Al was a Printer by profession, working for the Lithographers Union.
Al is best known for his love of his family, especially his cherished grandkids, and of fishing. A regular fisherman at Captree Boat Basin, his favorite and preferred was the Captain Gillen. He and his son, Pete were often able to take trips together; but upon boarding would split up to different parts of the boat. Not soon after a small crowd of strangers became enchanted friends as Al, being the “people person” he was, drew all these folks to him. In speaking of his grandkids, Al was a presence at every school concert, theatre play and sports event. He was so proud of every one of his grandchildren. Together, Al and Marie both found joy in making trips seeing various states across the country and also their annual family reunion in Wildwood, New Jersey.
Surviving is his wife, Marie; his children – his daughter, Lisa DiGeloromo and son-in-law, John; his sons, Peter and daughter-in-law, Kathy; and Philip and daughter-in-law, Kelly; his grandchildren – Matthew, Kristen, Amanda, Sydney, Taralynn, Emily, Griffin and Nicholas; and his brother – Mario Neri. Al is predeceased by his brothers and sisters – Johanna and Ward Gunsolley, Velia Neri, Enzo and Anna Neri, Virginia and Vinny Lasprogato, and his sister-in-law, Nancy Neri.
