She was preceded in death by her parents, Donnie and Minnie Lee Stevenson, sister: Loraine Levine, daughter: Deborah Burnette, son: Robert Burnette, and her husband Oliver Burnette.
Delores was born on June 12, 1939. She was educated in the Jasper County School System in South Carolina. As a young lady she moved North and met the love of her life, Oliver Burnette. While on one of his taxi routes, Oliver met Delores in a snowstorm while waiting to get home, and the rest is history. They were joined in holy matrimony on July 13, 1960. She was a devoted, loving, and caring wife, mother, and grandmother.
Delores joined Trinity Lutheran Church and was a faithful member until she was no longer able to attend service. While at Trinity, she served as bookkeeper, Altar Guild, a member of the WELCA Women’s Group, and weekly Bible Study group. She loved the lord and praised him to the highest. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post 361. Delores volunteered many hours there feeding the community a Thanksgiving dinner.
Most of all, her passion was her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, word find puzzles, and family dinners. She was renowned for her golden fried fish, peaches and cream cheese pie, and her delicious rum cake. In recent years, she became very comical. Delores knew how to put a smile on your face by the words she would say and things she did, notably her Huck-A-Buck dance.
Delores worked in the field of health care at Pilgrim Psychiatric Center, Brentwood, New York for thirty five years. She was a dedicated employee who advanced her skills and training to become the “Activities Coordinator” at the center.
She leaves to cherish her forever memories: daughters: Carolyn Cooper (Michael), Columbia, SC, Lavon Burnette, West Babylon, NY, Maureen McCloud, Wyandanch, NY, Laureen Burnette, Wyandanch, NY, Karen Drake (David), Dix Hills, NY, Evelyn Crews Burnette, Durham, NC, and Collette Williams (Robert), Lawton, Oklahoma; sisters: Lula Granger, West Babylon, NY, Mildred Stevenson, Irmo, SC; brother: Donnie Stevenson (Barbara) Chapin, SC; aunt: Pauline Dean, East Orange, NJ, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, loving relatives, caring church family, and friends.
