Dr. Teodoro Baytan “Teddy” Del Rosario, age 83, passed away on October 16, 2021 at his home in Dix Hills, NY with family by his side. Born in Cavite City, Philippines on October 26, 1937, he selflessly cared for many throughout his life.
Left to honor and remember Teodoro are his wife of 52 years (Dr. Nora Del Rosario), three children (Dr. Michael (Arlene) Del Rosario, Michellene (Todd) Jaeger, Valerie Del Rosario); four grandchildren (Zachary and Jacob Del Rosario; Henry and Julian Jaeger); brother (Fidel, Jr. (Loraine)) and many family members from across the U.S., Canada and the Philippines. Teodoro was preceded in death by his parents (Peregrina (1983), Fidel (1966)), brothers (Raoul (2020), Tomas (2005), David (1947)) and sister (Elenita (2015)).
Teodoro was a graduate of Cavite High School (1954) and the University of Santo Tomas (A.A., 1955, M.D., 1961) in his native Philippines. After graduating from medical school, Teodoro immigrated to the U.S. in 1962. He began his medical career at Mercer Hospital in Trenton NJ, passed the medical licensing exam in NY and completed his residency and internship at various hospitals in the New York metropolitan area, as well as an oncology fellowship in 1967 at Nassau Hospital (now NYU Langone Hospital), where he worked with a pioneering cancer and chemotherapy researcher. In 1968, Teodoro met his future wife, Nora, also a physician, through a mutual friend. They married the following year at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Manhasset, NY and eventually settled down in Dix Hills, NY, where they raised a family as devoted parents.
Known affectionately as “Dr. Del” or simply “Del” by his patients and colleagues, Teodoro practiced internal medicine as a primary care physician in private practice in Massapequa, NY and was affiliated with Mid Island Hospital (now Catholic Health St. Joseph Hospital) in Bethpage, NY. He was dedicated to his patients and generous with his time and kind gestures. After retiring in 2002 due to illness, Teodoro enjoyed fishing and tending to his bountiful vegetable garden. He was a cherished Lolo to his grandchildren, buying them ice cream and other treats and watching cartoons with them. Teodoro loved crossword puzzles, the NY Yankees, and classic movies; he was also an avid reader and history buff. He will be remembered for his gentle and humble nature, his quiet strength and resilience, and his thoughtful concern for the well-being of others.
