   Dear James and the Higgings family,
   Some memories of Michael Higgings, my friend. 
    Michael used to attended Latin Mass at the Church of Holy Innocents when he  came to League of the Union Club located on 37th St in NYC.   
   He  met me there in Latin Masses.
   Later we had lunch together in the Union Club.  Then with good intention he sponsored me to be a member of the Club.   In order to introduce me a nice place for retirement, he welcomed me to Century Village where he owns an apartment. Indeed it’s the good place for retirement. 
Michael encouraged me to move down here. 
   Recently I had the second visit to Michael from Dec 6 - Jan 14/ 2022.  I’d never thought it would be the last visit. Michael died suddenly on Jan. 21/2022. A short period of  7 days after I left him.    His unexpected departure.struck me and our friend Adele in the Village.
   Our life is in God’s plan. It is mysterious for us. We are told to be vigilant at the return of the master from the wedding.
  My condolences to the Higgins Family. 
  We prayed for Michael in 4 Masses I celebrated in the Church of Holy Innocents, NYC.    RIP for Michael.

My cousin Mickey will be missed by lots of friends and his extended family. He really did a great job at keeping in touch with all of us. He would call me on my birthday and remind me that my birthday was the same as his Grandmother.  He would  inevitably segue into stories about his beloved parents, my Aunt Gertie and Uncle John. He had a phenomenal memory for events and places sixty years ago that happened at Madison Street, Cornelia Street, Westbury, Sands Point and Ossining. I will miss those calls and the laughs. You lived a full life and you did it your way. God bless you and Rest In Peace.

I was shocked to hear of MichaeI's passing. He was a great friend and mentor to me.  When I first met him in 2015, he took me under his wing and gave me career advice when I was unsure what professional path I should take.  He  gave me an opportunity to work under him at the Metropolitan Club library, a wonderful experience that I will never forget.  He was always so generous and quick to crack a joke, even if I'd heard them a few times before! He encouraged me to join the University Club in DC, and we spent many dinner there discussing the world and his life growing up in Brooklyn.  He will be dearly missed.  You don't run into people like Michael every day; he was a man to whom I owe much.  Rest in peace, Michael.

Uncle Mickey was a beloved and treasured member of our extended family his entire life. He was a man of letters and surrounded by books from his earliest days in the basement library of his boyhood home in Westbury, Long Island to the much grander library of the Metropolitan Club in Washington DC until his recent retirement. 

He was conversant on any topic, particularly related to history or Catholicism which were two of his most passionate interests. Mickey could provide extended dissertations on the history of Brooklyn, Manhattan, Washington DC, Ireland or nearly anywhere in Europe or the US. Not to mention the political dynamics of each and he was never shy in sharing his personal views of those politics. 

Mickey was fiercely proud of his family, his faith and his Irish heritage. Our lasting memory will be that twinkle in his eyes along with his broad smile and infectious laugh. 

May he rest in peace. And as he always ended any conversation, “God Bless.”

Mickey Higgins was a devoted Catholic gentleman who espoused Christian values,  views and virtue. An opera fan, an historian, a curator of books and knowledge,  Michael introduced us to the Union League Club. I have fond memories of the tour he provided of historic Civil War sites in the D.C. area. Mickey's journey in this world has come to an end,  and now he slips into the eternal realm. May flights of angels guide him to his rest.

Mickey loved conversation even as a boy.  He covered many areas in life.  His faith, family and friends were of utmost importance and his broad interests contributed to his impressive historical knowledge.  Humor was evident to all who knew him as well as his loyalty and caring for those he loved.  This I know to be true for I have known Mickey all his life.  It is comforting to know Mickey was admired by many for his intellect and humor.  I will miss his Sunday calls and his many Rosaries for our family.  And there will be no more “Will you be my valentine?” cards.  We will miss you.  But most important he is at peace.  God Bless you, Mickey.  

Thinking of all Michael’s extended family at this sad time. He loved to keep in touch and had a keen interest in everything Irish. Sadly he was taken too soon. In his final  email to me the week he died he aptly titled it “Another day in Paradise “. RIP Michael and may  your family find comfort in the memories they share

Mickey was a man of many accomplishments.  I remember him as a book of knowledge. He took my late husband and I on the best tour of Washington DC anyone ever had.  Condolences and love to all the Higgins Family. Mickey will be greatly missed.

Uncle Mickey was a walking encyclopedia. Such great memories of our visit back in March 2019 around DC.  Uncle Mickey left an incredible mark on this world. Sending love and prayers to all. 

I came to know Michael Higgins when we were seminarians at St. Joseph's Seminary, Dunwoodie. We remained friends ever since and saw each other in New York, Washington, White Sulfur Springs and Gettysburg. He was a gentleman of the old school, a serious Catholic, a true man of letters, a thoughtful and kind friend. I will miss him. May he rest in God's peace.

Michael was an integral part of the life of the Metropolitan Club of Washington D.C.  His vibrant personality dominated his role as chief librarian which placed him at the heart of the Club.    His influence on the Club membership was profound.   After his retirement he was sorely missed.

He was a man of faith, steadfast good will and endearing charm.  Requiescat In Pace Michael.
