Betty was known for her deep and unwavering love for her family which was a love that truly knew no bounds. She was loving, quick-witted, and had a special gift for memorable sayings that those closest to her will carry with them always. Strong and fiercely independent, she lived her life with both resilience and heart.
While in high school, Betty focused on courses that would allow her to find work wherever life might take her. She once hoped to become a court reporter but instead continued her education at Blackwood-Davis Business School and OCCC where she developed skills in typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, and office administration. She took pride in her work as a bookkeeper, departmental secretary, and office manager. Betty believed that if you spend your days working, it should at the very least be something you enjoy.
Betty found her greatest joy in her family. A house full of grandchildren meant everything to her. She created a home where everyone felt welcome, loved, and cared for. She was affectionately known as “Boop,” “Mom,” and “Mamaw”—titles she carried with pride and devotion.
She was the center of her family and a constant source of love, strength, and connection. She also had a deep passion for genealogy and found great joy in learning about and preserving her family’s history.
Betty “Boop” met the love of her life, Clyde Cavner, at Turner Falls, Oklahoma, on July 4, 1950. Introduced by his brother, their connection was immediate and later she learned Clyde had already told others he was going to marry her. They became engaged on her birthday, August 26, 1950, and were married on February 16, 1951, at First Christian Church in Oklahoma City. Their life together was filled with laughter, close friendships, and countless cherished memories. Together, Betty and Clyde built a home always filled with love, laughter, cars, and coffee. He was her best friend and the love of her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clyde Cavner; her sister, Hazel O’Brien, and husband Pat; her brothers Bill Bruce and wife Debbie, Gerald Bruce and wife Annette, Vernon Bruce, Dale Bruce, Dwayne Bruce, and Glen Bruce. And grandson Andy Gary.
