Gary Eugene Sawyer, 68, was called to his Heavenly home on April 7, 2011. Gary was born May 19, 1942 in Denver, CO to Chester and Francis (Fortmeyer) Sawyer. Gary proudly served in the USAF and retired as a Lt. Col. Since 1991 he has been a member of the Tinker Federal Credit Union (TFCU) board of directors, serving as Chairman three times. Gary enjoyed playing chess, skydiving, antiques, art, music and shopping. Each year Gary looked forward to his yearly trip to Hawaii with Kathy.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Tom Evans. Survivors include his loving wife, Kathy; step-children, Tonya Sheets, SSgt. Oliver Bucher; step-grandchildren, Noah Bucher and Jimmy Jones; sisters, Janice Coats (Carl), Judith Evans, Joanne Ranly (Thomas); and sister-in-law, Lindy ‘wife number 2’ Giesbrecht.
The family will be receiving guests from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the Bill Eisenhour SE Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2011 followed by full military honors. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2011 in the Ft.
