

Gloria Sheryl Varnum West, 74, of Midwest City, OK, passed away the morning of December 27, 2020, at MeadowLake Estates in Oklahoma City after a valiant struggle with Sarcoidosis. Sheryl was born October 10, 1946, in Great Lakes, Illinois, to George Robert Varnum and Gloria Belle Hitt Varnum. She preferred to go by Sherry or Sheryl she was a longtime resident of Oklahoma and was proud to live in Midwest City. During her middle school and High School, Sheryl had the opportunity to ride and take care of Bill Atkinson’s Horses. She was a Midwest City High School graduate in 1965, and after graduation would refer to herself as a "Bomber Babe", where she was on the high school basketball. Later graduated from Lear Sigler Business College (Key Punch) in 1967. She worked to ensure her life mirrored her favorite bible verse Joshua 24:15 -"For me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
She was a devoted military wife and had the joy of including herself in her children’s lives, where she volunteered in many events for Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, School events, Dance classes, and several sporting events. She was very passionate about genealogy, and she was always ready to share something new she found out about the family. She enjoyed gardening and canning her harvest. She also had a knack for sewing and designing beautiful flower arrangements. She had a goofy sense of humor that could get the whole room to giggle and feel relaxed. Sheryl was also able to venture away from Oklahoma to visit several states in the United States, Germany, and lived in Japan. After the adventure was over, life brought her back to Midwest City, where she could be close to family and friends. Sheryl was predeceased by her parents, George Robert Varnum and Gloria Belle (Hitt) Varnum.
She was survived by her sister Georgia Lyn Otis of OKC and the loving mother to three children Daughter Shelly Marie (West) Coleman, her husband Joe, Son Joshua Chandler West, his wife Audrey, Son Christopher Randall Thomas West his wife, Elizabeth. Grand Children Ryan, Tyler, Cody, Logan, Samantha, Olivia, Mason, Joel Great Grandson Lukas Lee West and many nieces and nephews.
Sheryl's favorite quote was, "Don't Cry when I'm gone but smile that I was here in your life."
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Friday, January 8, 2021, and Memorial service at 2 pm on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Bill Eisenhour Southeast Funeral Home. The service will be live-streamed through the Bill Eisenhour Southeast Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be private and scheduled at a later date.
