Ida June Tedford, age 92, of Del City, OK, passed away peacefully Monday morning, August 4, 2025. She was born April 6, 1933, in Manchester, OK, to Edward and Clara (Hess) Bortz and was one of five children. Ida was four years old when she and her family moved from Oklahoma to Burley, Idaho, where she attended school and graduated from Burley High School in 1951.
Ida married Harold Tedford in 1950 and had two children, John and Glenda. They moved often, living in a total of nine states during their marriage, going where Harold’s career took them. In 1985, Ida moved to Oklahoma and settled in Del City, where she worked for American Fidelity Assurance Company until her retirement in 1997.
Made in the image of God, Ida was a faithful member of the Del City Church of Christ, where she dearly loved - and was loved by - her Christian family. With a servant heart, Ida enjoyed working in several volunteer programs through the church, such as the prison ministry, the Sister’s Keeper group and the card ministry. She also volunteered for personal visitation of church members and worked in the children’s ministry. Additionally, Ida served the elderly through Meals on Wheels and the Del City Senior Center.
A talented artist, Ida painted many beautiful landscapes and found a talent late in life for writing poetry. She was an excellent seamstress and made dresses, shirts, Halloween costumes and more for her family. She enjoyed gardening, canning and tending to her flower beds. Ida was also an artist in the kitchen and was known for making homemade chicken and noodles and baking the best blackberry cobblers and pumpkin pies with perfectly crimped crust.
Ida had a deep love for family, and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and siblings. She delighted in seeing her son and his family and loved their many visits to Del City. She loved spending time with her daughter and her family as they enjoyed many holidays, family celebrations and completing puzzles on the kitchen table. Ida made frequent visits to Idaho and Wyoming to see her beloved siblings, Vergie, Bud and Birdine, where they would spend days visiting extended family and reminiscing about their childhood.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Clara (Hess) Bortz, her brother, Edward “Bud,” and sisters Nadine Fay and Birdine Schmidt. She is survived by her children John Tedford (Amber) of Springfield, MO, Glenda Leemaster (Larry) of Norman, OK, sister Vergie Brannan of Lander, WY, grandsons Brett Leemaster (Alesha) of Norman, OK, and Kyle Leemaster (Brittany) of Oklahoma City, OK, granddaughters Lynsey Ingold (Ben) of Norman, OK, Amanda Couch (Josh) of Broken Arrow, OK, and Hayley Murphy of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Ida also leaves behind nine great grandchildren: Tyra, Jacob, Joel, Kali, Luke, Kai, Penn, Ellie, and Austyn. She also leaves behind many other family members and dear friends who will miss her.
A celebration of Ida’s life will be held Monday, August 11, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Del City Church of Christ, located at 1901 Vickie Dr., Del City, OK. A graveside service will follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery, located at 4000 S.E. 29th St., Del City, OK. A viewing will be held Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home at Sunny Lane Cemetery, located at 4000 SE 29th St., Del City, OK.
