Joanne was born on March 12, 1938, to Nathaniel and Annie Humphries in Fort Worth, Texas. She grew up in Brownwood, Texas among many uncles, aunts, and cousins. Sadly, Joanne lost her parents and two younger siblings in a tragic car accident when she was 13 years old. At that time, she was provided a loving home by her Aunt Myrtle and Uncle “Babe” in Brownwood for several years.
Joanne married Billy Ray Smith in 1955. She was a loving mother to their two sons, Garry Don and Kenneth Lee. Billy was career Army, so they lived in different places over the years of their marriage but settled in Del City, Oklahoma in 1971.
Joanne went back to school and earned an associate’s degree in business from Rose State College in 1974. She worked many years at Tinker Air Force base managing maintenance for large transport aircraft. Joanne was very artistic and creative. She enjoyed crafts, photography, gardening, and antiquing. She came to know the Lord as a youth and was an active servant in all the churches they attended.
Joanne is survived by sons; Garry and wife Barbara Smith; Kenneth and wife Krisha Smith; grandchildren Kasey and husband Marc Reyes; Chelsey and husband Austin Holmes; and Emily Smith; great-grandchildren Caedmon, Josephine, Hadley, Gwyneth, and Scarlett Holmes and Ezra and Eve Reyes.
