Kathryn was born on October 2nd, 1934 to Mary Ida and Estes Self who already had one daughter and one son, Virginia and Robert, making her the youngest of three children. They lived in Lubbock, TX at the time but ended moving to Oklahoma City where she met Harold Dean Hibdon who was going in to the Army.
Harold and Kathryn wanted to get married before he shipped out but Kathryn being only 16, was underage. Finally, they decided to take off to Purcell where some numbers were fudged and they were married in 1951. Over the next several years, they welcomed two boys – first Michael and then Randy.
Over the years, Kathryn worked at John A. Brown’s department store, as a mail separator for the US Postal Service, and then became a school bus driver. She wore many hats in her 85 years with the most important being that of a loving daughter, wife, mother, and Nana.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her brother, Robert; sister, Virginia; mother, Mary Ida; father, Estes; husband, Harold; and daughter-in-law, Donna Hibdon.
She is survived by her sons, Michael and Brenda Hibdon, Randy Hibdon; grandchildren, Ashley Hibdon and husband Casey, Corey Hibdon and wife Jennifer, Matthew Hibdon and wife Charlotte, and Brandon Hibdon; great-grandchildren Kelsey, Cali, Jordan, Hayden, Paisley, James, Weston, Wyatt, and Avery.
There will be a funeral service held on Wednesday, February 12th at 12:00pm in the chapel at Sunnylane Funeral Home & Cemetery, to be followed by a graveside service where Kathryn will be laid to rest next to her loving husband of 59 years.
Additionally, the Hibdon family would like to extend their extreme gratitude to Charlotte Hibdon for the love and dedication that she exhibited while acting as Kathryn’s primary caregiver over the course of the last year.
