

Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Tilla Mae Wolfington Slayton, his father, Bobby Jack Slayton, and a sister, Carla Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, Kathi Slayton. His brother, David Slayton and his wife, Mary, and his sister, Sheri Hilterbran and her husband James. He is also survived by his three sons, Bonner and his wife, Heidi; Bobby and his wife, Ann; son David, and his daughter, April Frair and her husband, Ron Frair; six grandchildren: Kaleb Jack Slayton, Ashlyn Freeman, Konrad Jack Slayton, Gary Jack Slayton, Tilla Slayton, and Meadow Frair; and one great-grandchild Waylon Cash Jones.
Larry Slayton graduated from US Grant High School in 1967 and served in the United States Air Force as a sergeant, being honorably discharged in 1972. He went on to receive his Bachelor's degree from the University of Central Oklahoma, his Master's degree from the University of Texas, Arlington, and his Ph.D. from his beloved University of Oklahoma in public administration.
Dr. Slayton spent his life as a public servant, serving his country in the United States Air Force, the city of Oklahoma City Park Rangers, as a policeman for the Oklahoma City Public Schools, as a city administrator for Edmond, as a city manager for Midwest City, Choctaw, and Springtown, Texas, a college professor at Tulsa Community College, and as a Dean at Spartan School of Aeronautics.
Dr. Slayton was avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, camping, and telling stories by the campfire. He loved singing and playing the guitar. And enjoyed watching football. Some of his favorite places to visit were the mountains of Colorado, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Blue River in Tishomingo.
He is famous for his closings when he said his goodbyes by saying things like, "Come see me when you don't have time to stay," and "See you around the campus, kid."
