She was born October 24, 1936, to Ruby Jane and Fred L Harmor in OKC. Norma graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1954, lettering in volleyball. During high school, she worked as a dishwasher at St. Anthony’s Hospital but soon promoted to office clerk. Later in life she worked as a shipping clerk for several truck lines. She was always the first to help fellow employees and cover extra shifts when needed. In her free time, she often volunteered at the Salvation Army. She was married to Bobby L. McIntire on May 7, 1960, and had three children.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bobby, brothers Bob (Doc) Harmor, and Johnnie Harmor. Survivors include her daughter Kathy and husband Brian Johnson, daughter Sally A. McIntire, son Bobby L. McIntire Jr. and wife Amy, sister Faye Stephenson and brother Rusty Harmor and wife Debby. Survived by seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
Norma loved spending time with her family and cheering on her favorite teams. If there were no sports on the TV, she could often be found in the kitchen preparing one of her favorite meals for her family. She routinely opened her home for friends and family to gather on the weekends and holidays. She loved sharing her recipes with her kids and grandkids, including our favorite, smothered steak or pork and cabbage. The house smelled of salmon patties for days after.
She adored her grandkids, great-grandkids, and the entire family, beaming with pride at their accomplishments. Her selflessness and generosity inspired us all, and her stories of resilience and perseverance will continue to empower us. Though she may be gone, her legacy lives on, and we find comfort knowing she's reunited with loved ones, free from pain.
Norma was a die-hard Oklahoma City Thunder basketball, Chicago Cubs baseball, Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Dallas Cowboys football fan. Casinos were a favorite of hers and her sister Faye. She often collected prizes and her top winning at WinStar was $2500. Norma was a caregiver at heart she spent six years providing care for her husband Bob, until his passing in 1988. As a widowed mother, she provided the best care for her three teenage children. She spent countless years caring for her mother Ruby’s boyfriend Jim, as well as became the primary caregiver for her mother, who lived with her for the following decade. She welcomed everyone with open arms, from her family to stray cats. Later in life Norma no doubt loved her hallmark movies and romance novels. In her spare time, a challenging jigsaw puzzle, and the daily crosswords kept her sharp but, in the end, the Oklahoma City thunder captured her heart.
She would love for her guests to dress in their favorite thunder gear as we lay her to rest.
