Paul Leroy Netters, the son of George and Leona Lucille Sisk was born on the 25th of June 1927 in Bixby Oklahoma. He passed away 11th February 2016 at his home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He will be buried in the Sunny Lane Cemetery on the 13 February 2016.
Paul spent his early life in Fort Smith, Arkansas and on a farm in Cherokee County, Texas. Moving to Oklahoma City in 1935, he worked in the meat processing industry most of his life, spending 33 years with Wilson Foods. Upon retirement he cleaned swimming pools and mowed lawns before retiring once again to Sulphur, Oklahoma, where some of his happiest years were spent.
He especially enjoyed the time he spent helping build the Sulphur United Methodist Church. The gentlemen he worked with were known as The Drill Team and he became very close to that bunch of men.
He enjoyed reading and read hundreds of Western books. He also read a few romance novels following his wife’s screening and approval of them. Thereafter, he moved back to Oklahoma City following a decline in his health.
Paul married Patsy Swindall in 1951 and they were blessed with two sons, Paul Jr. and William Thomas. However, Tommy passed away when he was 7 years old from leukemia and Paul never really completely recovered from the loss. In 1970, he lost his mother who he was very close too.
Paul learned to square dance, and one night at lessons he had a corner and the caller says “walk around your corner.” However, Paul and his corner could not do it because one wanted to pass right shoulders and the other wanted to pass left shoulders until finally the caller came down to the floor and showed them how to do it and that’s when he met the love of his life Donna Rae Davenport. Three years later, they married on the 18 of August 1972 in Moore, OK at the New Life Methodist Church. Paul had been heard to say that the events that most impacted his life were being married to Donna.
One of Paul’s favorite activities was traveling in their motorhome. While square dancing they met and became lifelong friends with a couple of special people, Charlie and Lois Dye and RC and Kate Staggs. Many of their trips were taking with them and most of their travels were to the West. A couple of Paul’s favorite spots to visit were South Fork, Colorado, Texoma, OK, and of course Road River, Oregon.
Once in an interview he was asked “What hopes do you have for future generations of your family?” and he replied, “Be happy and healthy and be kind to old folks.” He was asked “What advice would you give to your family?” he replied “To save money and enjoy life!” He wanted to be remembered as Grandpa.
Paul was drafted in the United States Armed Forces on 3rd of October 1945. He received two medals, the WWII Victory medal, and the Army Occupation medal; he served in Korea for 16 months. While there he was an auto mechanic, “he was in the movies,” and a clerk in the retail store. He returned to the states in 1947 being discharged in Camp Beale, California. Shortly thereafter he lost his grandfather in Oklahoma City, OK.
He joined the Westwood Masonic Lodge in 1957. In 2007, he received his 50 year pin which he was very proud of. In an interview 15 years ago, Paul was asked “What have you done in your life that you are most proud of?” and he answered “Being Worship Master of Westwood Lodge.” While there he developed a love for teaching the Masonic work and was a certified Lecturer for many years. One of his most treasured possessions was his Masonic watch. He then transferred his membership to the Sulphur Masonic Lodge and after moving back to the city he transferred to Myrtle Lodge in Oklahoma City, OK.
He was preceded in death by his son William Thomas Netters, mother and father, and step father Claude Netters. He is survived by his wife Donna of the home, son Paul Netters Jr and his wife Susan, Rogue River, OR; step daughter, Patricia Jenkins, Oklahoma City, OK; step son Robert Michael Schroeder and his wife Rose of Haven, KS; Grandchildren, Ed Netters, Vernonia, OR; Jason Netters and wife Danialle, Central Point, OR; Erin and husband Russ Stout, Red River, OR; Brandi Dudley and husband Eric, Blanchard, OK; Ami Talbot and husband Dan, McAlester, OK; Justin Schroeder and wife Sarah, Maize, KS; and Jake Schroeder, Haven, KS; Great Grandchildren, Tommy and LeLanda Stout, Wyatt, Emery, and Lillian Dudley, Tanner and Brianna Talbot, and Madison, Piper, and Launa Schroeder.
