Verna Mae (Robbins) Johnson went to be with the Lord on July 30, 2019 at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family.
She began her life in Hallowell, Kansas on September 7, 1931, born to H. L. Robbins and Vera (Holmes) Robbins Duncan. In her early years, her family moved around with her father’s work as a welder. They finally settled in Oklahoma City where she met the love of her life, Leroy Johnson. He began flirting with her at the school bus stop, and she didn’t know what to think of him, but soon he won her over and they eloped on August 14, 1948.
Verna enjoyed married life as a house wife and mother of 4 girls, cooking, sewing, and being a Girl Scout Mom. She later began working outside the home in various retail business offices doing accounting and secretarial work. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, water skiing, boating, gardening and of course spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was also an accomplished artist.
Verna and Leroy were always side by side living, loving, and traveling in their RV. They were very happily married for 69 years. Their last residence was in Midwest City, OK at Autumn House where they enjoyed making new friends, as well as worshiping in Midwest City at Meadowood Baptist Church.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Edna Robbins, her husband, Leroy Johnson, her daughter, Gloria Jean Goines, and her sisters Mary (Robbins) Levann and Virginia Lee Robbins.
She is survived by her daughters, Pamela Sue Johnson of Midwest City, OK, Vickie Lee (Johnson) Hoover and husband, Scott of Hemphill, TX, and Beverly Ann (Johnson) Ingram and husband, Roger of Midwest City, OK, son-in-law, Kennith Goines of Del City; her brother, Wayne Robbins of Guthrie, OK; grandchildren; Colette Ingram (Micah), Daniel Goines, Tabitha Yancey, Joshua Richardson, (Bethany), Jacob Richardson (Shelli), Larry Hoover (Toni), Steven Wade (Debra), and Sabrina Canada; 19 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Verna, Mother, Grandmother, Grandma-Great, Aunt, Sister, Sister-in-law, and Friend! You will always be remembered in our hearts because of your contagious smile and endless love! You will be missed!
