Wanda Campbell Burns was born in Glencoe, Payne County, OK, September 9, 1934. She was the youngest of nine surviving children born to William L. and Clara Campbell. The family moved to Seminole in December of 1934. Wanda attended Roosevelt Grade School in Seminole and grades Eight through Twelve at Varnum High School.
She married Maurice Burns in Seminole April 2, 1955 and moved to California where Maurice was stationed with the US Army at the Presidio of San Francisco. Returning to Seminole with her husband and baby daughter, Penny, she went to work in 1958 at the First National Bank in Seminole before the family moved to Oklahoma City in 1965 where she continued in Banking. With the Banking Crisis of the 70’s & 80’s, she accepted the position of Bank Liquidation Specialist in the newly formed Division of Liquidation of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in Dallas and in the New York Region in Massachusetts. She retired from the FDIC in 1997 and returned to Midwest City, OK.
Wanda died September 27, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, her mother and father, three brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Kevin Hite of Oklahoma City, OK.
