

NEW IBERIA – Funeral Services will be celebrated for Mr. George Joseph Luquette, age 59, at 11:00 am Friday June 20, 2014 at Evangeline Funeral Home. Pastor Randy Dugas of Our Saviors Church will officiate. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of Delcambre on Thursday from 12:00 pm until 9:00 pm, and will resume on Friday from 8:00 am until services.
George was born November 21, 1954 in Abbeville to the late Robert Paul Luquette and Agnes Schynder Luquette, and was one of six children. He passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Iberia Medical Center with his family at his side.
George was a mechanic having worked for over 40 years with the McIlhenny Company at Avery Island. He also worked closely with the Simmons family taking care of and operating their boats, the “Mama Tia” and “Tia II”. George was also a man that was always sharing his knowledge and expertise of mechanics with his coworkers and lending a hand when needed.
Outside of work, he was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting (especially deer), fishing, and outdoor activities with his family. He was also a very good cook and made one the best fish court boullion around. But his greatest love was the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He adored them and cherished the time spent with them. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Schlicher Luquette of New Iberia; sons, Jason Paul Luquette and wife Paige of Delcambre and Keith Joseph Luquette of New Iberia; daughter, Shella Marie Luquette Derouen and husband Brad of Avery Island; grandchildren, Ashley Romero, Kylie Luquette, Kelsey Luquette, Alexis Luquette, Keygan Luquette, Gabrielle Luquette, and Nyla Guidry; great grandson, Landyn Romero; brothers, Paul Luquette and wife Nancy of Abbeville, Dunice Luquette of New Iberia, and Donald Luquette and wife Tina of Abbeville; and sisters, Diane Harrington of Abbeville and Chris Conner and husband Darrell of New Iberia.
Memorial donations may be madein George’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial & Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and/or American Diabetes Assoc., Louisiana Affiliate, Inc., 12090 S. Harrell’s Ferry Road, Suite B, Baton Rouge, LA 70816.
