DELCAMBRE – Marilyn “Sue Sue” Delaune Derise passed away peacefully in her home the morning of July 1, 2022, in the company of her husband and children after a long battle with ALS. We will mourn, cry, and question why God’s servant left us so soon. Trusting in God’s plan, we must now celebrate being a part of Marilyn’s life.
She put her heart and soul into her vocation of being a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and a true Friend to so many. Her grace-filled cup ran over into her community: the sick, the dying, the forgotten in the nursing homes, and anyone that crossed her path that needed kindness, encouragement, or a listening ear. Fueled by her prayer life and love of Jesus in the Eucharist, she was always scanning the horizon for a soul that needed healing. She had a special peripheral vision, or a gift of spotting people on the fringes of life: the sick, the forgotten, the hurting. She was relentless in completing each mission God placed on her huge, receptive heart that held the love of Jesus within her frail earthly body.
She served the Catholic Church as a Eucharistic minister, lector, religious education teacher, leader of the Children of Mary, parish pro-life coordinator, member of the St. Anne's Alter Society, and was a recipient of the Martin Luther King award. She also considered Maison du Monde nursing home her second home and the residents her family.
Our family would like to thank everyone for the loving support from the community of Delcambre and those surrounding it. Marilyn had no “City Limits”.
We would also like to thank Houston Methodist ALS Clinic, Hospice of Acadiana, Team Gleason, Food for Love, and The Acadiana ALS support group for the priceless bond with very special people.
We will miss her, but her spirit lives on in us all, and in honor of her we must try our best to pass on the same kindness, compassion, and charity she gave to us.
Rest In Peace our Love, and may His Holy Face shine upon you.
