

Phillip Myer Kane passed away Tuesday December 22nd 2015 at his mountain home in Brevard after a 3 year battle with Cancer surrounded and survived by his wife and soul mate Linda, mother Nellie Mae, and four sons Benjamin, John, Michael, and Harrison.
Born on October 2nd 1947 he was a native of Miami, FL and graduated from the University of Miami with a BSBA in 1969 followed by an MBA in 1983. After he started work with Arthur Anderson Phil went on to Knight Newspapers and orchestrated their merger with Ridder Publications into Knight Ridder and eventually rose to the position of Vice President and Controller. In 1989 under Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Jack Kemp, he became the first CFO in the Department’s history and the success of his programs directly led congress to pass the CFO act of 1991 requiring all federal agencies to centralize financial management under a qualified CFO.
Returning to the private sector until his retirement Phil worked with multiple private educational companies focusing from early childhood education through post-secondary education while also becoming a specialist in increasing shareholder value by working with private equity firms to help purchase and consolidate companies.
Services will be on December 24th at noon with interment to follow at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Fort Pierce, Florida. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Phillip and Linda Kane Family Charitable Fund with the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation.
