

DENISON- Ada Marcella Swearingin was born on December 10, 1917 to Earl Park and Alice Allison Goad at Wade, OK. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 95 years old in Denison, TX. She married Charlie Swearingin on July 18, 1972 in Bowie, TX. She graduated from high school in Bennington, OK, then went on to get a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Teaching from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She taught Sunday school for seventeen years at the First United Methodist Church in Durant. She taught second grade in Calera, Ok from 1957-1965, then taught third grade in Denison at Golden Rule Elementary until her retirement in 1976. She took an early retirement in order spend more time with her husband, kids, and grandkids. She enjoyed going deer hunting with her husband, traveling, camping, shopping with her girls, and then later in life watching her great grandchildren play.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and then her husband, Charlie, in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Clint Goad, Dewey Goad, and Park Goad; sisters; Kathleen Wingfield, Mary Nelson, and Lou Powell. She leaves two daughters, Linda Umsted, Marylin Woodress and husband Wayne, all of Denison; two grandchildren, Delaine Brown and husband Scott of Durant, OK and David Woodress of Denison, TX; four great-grandchildren, Chase Brown, Ashlea Brown, and Kylin Brown of Durant, OK, and Zachary Woodress of Denison, TX. She is also survived by a sister, Ann Manning and husband Tom, of Garner, NC; sisters in law Gertrude Goad, Letha Goad and Pat Goad, all of Durant, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Highland Cemetery in Durant, OK on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 2:00 in the afternoon, with Pastor Lee Armstrong officiating.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Mark Manning, Rick Goad, Dale Goad, Frank Wingfield, Steve Wingfield, and Johnny Wingfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Waples United Methodist Church in Denison, TX or to the Donald W. Reynolds Public Library in Durant, OK. Bratcher Funeral Home in Denison, TX will be handling arrangements.
