

POTTSBORO-Herman Dale West, age 81, passed away the morning of December 14, 2014 at Texoma Medical Center due to complications related to cancer. Dale was born April 19, 1933 in Stockton, Missouri to Hervie West and Ethel Bayes from Fair Play, Missouri. Dale’s younger life was sprinkled with many exciting adventures spanning from Missouri to California during difficult times for the country. He attended Richmond High School where he met Iris Rose Watson. Dale enlisted in the United States Air Force and immediately went to Dallas, Texas for basic training. On December 19, 1951, he married Iris Rose Watson in Dallas, TX. What followed was a 20 year career in the United States Air Force where Dale received the Bronze Star for his distinguished service in Viet Nam. By the time Dale retired from the Air Force in November 1971, he had reached the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and was actively involved in the closure of Perrin Air Force Base. Dale worked with Montgomery Ward for more than 20 years before he permanently retired to spend more time doing the things he loved such as hunting and fishing.
Dale is survived by his daughter, Belinda West; son and daughter-in law, Blaine and Nila West, two grandsons, Josh and Kaleb West, and a granddaughter-in-law, Meg West. Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Iris West, parents Hervie and Ethel and his best friend, Lucky.
Friends are invited to come and share personal stories about Dale and attend a brief military service at Bratcher Funeral Home in Denison, Texas at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014.
