The family of Iva Kathryn (Holmes) Black wants you to know the love and joy that has been experienced during her life. She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Mack Black, Sr., her father, Mack Daniel Holmes and mother, Willie Belle Miller.
She is survived by her loving sister Aliff Ray Coppedge, her baby brother Johnny Holmes and wife Glenda; three children, daughter Frances Freed and husband Kenny, son Billy Jr., and daughter Deborah Morrison and husband Bobby; grandchildren Jennifer De Tar, Dustin Morrison, Amy (Morrison) Brown and James David Britain; great-grandchildren Chelsy, Jakob, Reneah, Brianna, Brett, Dylan and Eythan.
Born in Weston, Texas January 16, 1935, Kathryn grew up in Weston on a cotton farm. She was sweet, cotton pickin’ farm girl. She claimed to friends to be “poor as a church-mouse,” but then her sister “spilled the beans” about going to the Texas movie theater in McKinney on Saturday nights. It was said: “Hurry up, we’ll get a bail in before the movie begins.” They would buy a pound of baloney and Mrs. Baird’s bread as a treat before going to a show.
Married at 15, she was introduced by a cousin, Laura Mae, to Billy Mack and loved him at “first sight.” They married on January 18, 1950, raised a family and traveled together in the Navy for many years. They moved to Kansas, then Florida and back to Texas. Once her youngest left home, she became an L.V.N. to care for others.
She spent a lot of family time with brothers and sisters. She loved family!
