

John Dexter Sullivan, 89 of Pottoboro, Texas gave up his courageous fight with cancer, at home on Thursday, 4 April 2013. He was raised in the mountains of West Virginia. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a skilled farmer, carpenter and all around handyman. He left West Virginia to join the Navy. He served in both the Asian and European Theaters.
Born January 21, 1924 in Seacoal, West Viriginia, he was one of nine children born to the late Cecil D. and Esther Sutphin Sullivan. He was preceded in death by two sons, John Randolph and Alan Dexter Sullivan; brothers, Buford Freeman and Edgar Cecil Sullivan, and sisters, Elaine Sophia Sullivan and Arizona Ruth Smith.
Surviving are his son, David Cecil and wife Linda of Virginia and their children, Kathryn Jeanne, Jennifer Lynn and Angela Joleen Sulllivan, all of Virginia; a daughter Pamela Jolene Shell of Florida and her children, Sarah Shell and her daughter, Madison; granddaughter Laura Shell and grandson Taylor Shell, all of Florida; 2 grandchildren Travis Sullivan of Florida and Theresa Sullivan Lees and her children, Ryan, Ashley, Hunter, and Teagan of Westfield, Mass. Also surviving are three sisters, Marion Call of Culloden, West Virginia, Marcelain Call of Hurricane, West Virginia, Shirley Schmidt of Plano, Texas and a brother Ewueal A. Sullivan of Florida.
