Vernon V. Phillips

Funeral services will be held at 7th Avenue Independent Baptist Church Friday, October 31, 2014 at10:00 A.M., with Brother James Singleton officiating. Family will be available for visitation until 11:30 and then burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Denison.

Pallbearers will be Jared Drain, Trey Drain, Wes Bullen, Mike McLinsky, Matt McLinsky and Stephen Jones.

Vernon was born on Thursday, August 19, 1926 in Boswell, Oklahoma, the son of Leonard Phillips and Flora Powell. He was a superintendent for the city of Denison.

He is survived by sons Vernon Phillips & wife Leona of Denison, Leonard Phillips & wife Diane of Leonard, Robert Phillips & wife Susan of Denison; daughter Mary Reeves & husband Kevin of Denison; brothers Albert and Kenneth; sisters Jessie Mae, Aline and Edna Lee; grandchildren Darlene, Melissa, Vernon Lee, Donny, Janet, James, Vernon Eugene, Tammie, Kristie, Tracie, Michael, Shawndy, Jared, and Trey; great-grandchildren Kaylie, Darion, Lillie and 32 others; 6 great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Evelyn, daughter Barbara Sue, brother Clarence, sisters Opal, Zetta Louise, Flora Ellen, grandson Bobby Joe and step-father Dutch Jones.
