

Bruce Wayne Helvey was born in Lincoln NE on November 9, 1958 to Dale and Eleanor (Asch) Helvey. He spent many happy summers in Steele City Nebraska visiting his grandparents and having adventures with his cousins Sandy (Hynek) Maahs. Barb (Hynek) Mayhew, Christine (Helvey) Hutchings, Kathy (Helvey) O’Malley, and Mike, Gary and Jeff Asch. Bruce attended Southeast High School in Lincoln Nebraska. Bruce’s love of travel and meeting new people was fueled by going camping and vacationing around the country with his family. and later his friends.
When Bruce was 20, he moved to Denver Colorado, having fallen in love with the mountains and the many friends who joined him or met in the area. A hard worker, Bruce worked in construction and carpentry in the Denver area and later in Cuba and South Africa. Bruce’s love of travel took him to Thailand, Jamaica and the Island surrounding Mexico. He enjoyed scuba diving, jet skiing and snow skiing. Always a Nebraska Cornhusker fan, Bruce proudly wore his Husker Red on game day and at work, especially when the Huskers beat the Colorado Buffalos and conveniently overlooked the loses to that team. Bruce enjoyed taking his goddaughters Dylan and Piper Christmas shopping for children for the mission in Denver.
He is survived by his mother Eleanor Helvey, brother Douglas and Corrinne Helvey- South Dakota, sister Brenda Helvey-Lincoln, aunt and uncle Lorene and Bud Hynek, cousins Mike and JoAnn Asch, Barb and Doug Mayhew, Sandy and Duane Maahs, Christine Hutchings and Jeff and Debbie Asch. Also, many great friends including Chris Metzer, Pam Hogfoss, Renee Fajardo, Glenn Anstine and goddaughters Dylan and Piper.
Bruce was preceded in death by his father Dale Allen Helvey, infant sister Roxane Rae Helvey, his aunt Norma Jean Asch, uncles Dwaine Asch, Neil Helvey, grandparents Leonard and Tina Asch, and Woody and Dorthea Helvey, cousins Kathy (Helvey) O’Malley, and Gary Asch.
A celebration of life will be planned in the future.
