Born 1922 in Hackett, Pennsylvania to Celia and Edward Lewis, she moved with her sisters, Margaret and Blanche from Niles, Ohio to Colorado in 1950. In that year, Blanche and Chatty joined Denver Wood Products Company, the region's largest and most respected wood products distributor at that time. As chief advisor to the Secretary-Treasurer she made significant contributions to the growth of the company including implementation of their first computer system, one of the first of its type in the lumber industry. Chatty and Blanche were ahead of their time, showing how women working as a team can succeed in male dominated industries.
Chatty was a well-loved daughter, sister, aunt, and great-aunt always ready to join in the fun particularly if sports were involved. A skilled and very competitive athlete, she participated in numerous sports including golf, tennis, bowling, skiing and basketball where she gave her brothers a run for their money. An avid Broncos fan, reader and film enthusiast, she was equally able to converse about politics, religion and sports and loved sharing her large collection of contemporary music records and tapes with friends and family.
The light of her Christian faith shown brightly throughout her life and was particularly evident as she attended to her sisters in their final hours. Inseparable and intensely devoted to each other Margaret, Blanche and Chatty were exemplary in demonstrating the power of family and faith in meeting the ups and downs of life with optimism and serenity…lessons well learned by the continuous stream of youngsters visiting their Denver household. Chatty was widely traveled, visiting Europe, Mexico, Canada and most of the United States. But she loved the simple things in life, especially being with her cocker spaniels and enjoying nature with her sisters at their Granby Lake cabin.
Her passing follows that of her sisters Margaret and Blanche and brothers, Bill and John. She is survived by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, & great-great nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 2 pm at Olinger Hampden Mortuary.
