Hadie Louise Walcott was born on August 24, 1927 to Samuel Wylie Sr. and Louisa Puertos in Belize; and was the second of three children. Hadie was called home to Glory on the morning of April 4, 2020, at age 92.
Hadie attended St. Hilda’s College where she graduated, and later started nursing school. She was a seamstress and hairdresser in Belize until she migrated to New York. Hadie’s life exemplified the culture and roots of her Belizean upbringing.
After relocating to New York in the early 1960’s, Hadie worked at Cornell University Medical College as a Lab Technician/Assistant for many years. After retirement, she moved to Aurora, Colorado, her home at the time of her passing.
Hadie was known for her witty personality, signature hats and coordinated outfits - most of them being in her favorite color, green. She loved to laugh, dance, and travel. Her hobbies were cake baking and decorating, puzzles, and reading. If you were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with Hadie, she undoubtedly left an impression. She had an incredible sense of humor and her infectious personality brought smiles to many faces. Everyone who met her felt special and unique. Even as her words became few, by the way she held your hand or looked at you, you knew her love was undeniable. Until her last day, she was our comforter.
Hadie was the family matriarch, a beloved friend and confidante to many. She held a special place in the hearts of her loved ones, but her most esteemed role in life was being a mother and grandmother always providing financial advice and instilling the importance of saving for emergencies.
Hadie was preceded in death by her mother Louisa Puertos, father Samuel Wylie Sr., sister Anita Wylie, brother William Wylie, daughter Alice Walcott, former husband Lionel Walcott Sr., Marjorie Walcott and Jeffrey Walcott.
To cherish her precious memory, she leaves behind the following children and spouses: Maurice Wylie-Kingston, Elaine Hendy, Caryl Neal (Edwin), Michael Walcott (Marjorie), Clive Walcott (Valerie), Yvonne Bailey (Amos Sr.), Earl Walcott Sr. (Christine), Lionel Walcott Jr. and Anita Moody (Kenneth); grandchildren: Sharon Johnson, Sharlene Walcott-Williams, Duane Hendy (Tracy), Irma Johnson, Sharlotte Walcott, Vernell Walcott, Tifara Monroe, Deron Hendy, Trisha Thompson, Sharnay Walcott, Verna Walcott, Shantel Batiste (Jean-Paul), Tiffanie Walcott, Asia Walcott, Jenice Bailey, Leighton Walcott, Chad Walcott, Amos Bailey Jr., Tygee Walcott; twenty-six great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, six brothers, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends.
