

Henry graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in 1952. He was a proud veteran, having served his nation as a 2nd lieutenant in the US Army artillery division during the Korean War. He made his career in the insurance industry where he worked his way up the ranks and finished his career as a vice president for Insurance Services Office in New York, NY. His career took him and his family to many places, including Chicago, Denver, New York City/New Jersey, and Michigan before he retired at the age of 60.
Henry had many and varied interests throughout his life, from cultivating bonsai plants to Tai Chi to making homemade sauerkraut. He enjoyed deer hunting with friends and family on their acreage in Michigan. He also enjoyed bird hunting and fishing. His other great loves were reading (poetry, fiction, and non-fiction) and opera.
Henry is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joan Griffendorf; sister Ann Deaner; children, John Griffendorf, Susan Griffendorf and Carolyn Bonneyrat and her husband, Patrice; grandchildren, Jessica Roe and her husband, Ben and Ruth Griffendorf; and great grandchildren, Hunter Roe and Hudson Roe. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Henry Griffendorf, Sr.; and his son, James Griffendorf.
Henry will be cremated and his ashes buried at a memorial service on March 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Olinger Hampden Mortuary, 8600 East Hampden Ave., Denver, Colorado.
