She spent many years doing electrical design, specializing in large, complex projects for hospitals and other medical centers. She was well-known in the architectural and building community in Portland, and worked on projects for Providence and OHSU hospitals, among many others. She retired at age 65.
In her private time, Janet was a highly skilled textile artist. She was a hand weaver, and also knitted and crocheted. She was active in the Portland Hand Weavers Guild, including serving as an officer of the guild. She was also involved in planning and managing the Convergence conference for the Hand Weavers Guild of America when it was held in the Portland area.
