John Robert Olsen

John Robert Olsen of Aurora Colorado was born in Kansas City, Kansas April 25th 1938. Known to his friends as Bob, shortly after completing high school in Turner Kansas, he married and began a 25-year career in the United States Air Force.

Bob proudly served his country. His pride of the United States and the Air Force was evident to the day he passed, always with an American flag lapel pin pinned to his shirt and when out he was rarely without his “Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Retired” hat.

His service took him to Arkansas, Texas, Vietnam, Colorado, the Philippines, Florida and several other TDY assignments before retiring from the Air Force in August 1981. With his family he returned to the place he called home, Colorado.

Throughout this journey, Bob was active in his community and the backbone of his family. By his example, he taught his sons to be respectful, to be honorable, honest, kind and to love without condition. He taught his sons how to be men.

Back in Colorado Bob took up a second career working for Heather Gardens as their contracts coordinator. He stayed until his second retirement in 2012 and continued to regularly get together with the friends he made – both coworkers and residents.

After retiring from Heather Gardens, Bob continued to be active in the community. He had memberships with the Air Force Sergeants Association, Armed Forces E9 Association, Armed Forces Enlisted Association, and others. He was most active with the E-9ers Association and volunteered with Freedom Service Dogs.

His last home was at the Bella Vita retirement community where he continued to make friends and bring joy to people’s hearts.

Bob lived his life in such way that his memory will live long in the hearts of the many that he touched.

He will be missed.

Bob was a huge dog lover and had volunteered for Freedom Service Dogs.
