Ms Barkeen, you were my introduction to music, and I am a music lover to this day. Thank you for adding such an important element to my life. Just think of all the lives you touched! You will be missed. God bless you!

Mrs. Barkeen was my favorite teacher at Western Hills back in the 70's.  She was so patient and kind.  She gave so much of herself especially to kids that had a gift to sing but were so shy to let it out.  She brought the best out of everyone. She was an Angel before her time.

I always enjoyed music class at Western Hills...what a wonderful, warm lady...

Rest in peace, Mrs. Barkeen!  Thank you so much for teaching us so many things, not just music.  You were my favorite music teacher during my time in the Mapleton Schools, starting out with Western Hills.  May you sing with the angels!

Lucile will be forever remembered as one of the most gracious and caring ladies.  She gave life to her music and instruction and wraped her heart around those that she taught.  She was one of those very gifted and special teachers that taught all of us who knew her.  She will long be remembered.

My heart for music began at Western Hills Elementary. I remember Mrs. Barkeen vividly. Down to her clothing, shoes and the way she styled her hair. Her sparkling eyes and immeasurable patience. I can still sing Senor Don Gato, recite rhythms like chain, chain daisy-chain, funt, funt, elephant and Keet-keet, parakeet. If you were ever under her instruction you know what I'm referring to. She gathered the most adorable little elves and taught them to tap, tap, tap their little hammers and ring, ring, ring their little hammers. She is the one who intruduced me to the Autoharp. My poor parents had to listen to my Christmas plea to have one of my own for years following.

Mrs. Barkeen not only taught us how to love music but how to love and respect music and one another. 

My sisters and brother can still sing the Sesame Street songs she taught us for our Spring program. 

Your legacy will go on in the hearts of many and I will always be grateful for who you were and what you did for others in your time here on earth. 

Now you can sing with the angels Mrs. Barkeen. Rest in peace.

I am a former Western Hills student of Mrs. Barkeen. I adored her dearly and her work. She amused me by letting me choreograph a dance to the "Entertainer" for a school program. I will never forget her and the positive impact she made on my life. I love you and I will miss you!

Shocked to hear of her passing.  Mrs. Barkeen was my favorite music teacher.  May she rest in peace.  Her family is in our prayers.

I will never forget how I learned to appreciate the joy and excitement of music.  I was in 4th grade at Western Hills Elementary school in Ms. Barkeen's class.   Rest in peace Ms.Barkeen and thank you.

You have earned your wings, Lucile! Happy travels to the next world. I dressed your hair waay back in the day, late 60's and early 70's, at that little shop @ 38th & Wads. It was a joy and a privilege to know you.  Sincere condolences to your family and close friends.

What a Wonderful woman she was. She inspired so many with her teacings and her kindness. Her love of music and for her students is what I will always remember. She left a life long inpression on so many of us. She will be missed, but never ever forgotten.

I remember Ms. Barkeen from when i was at Western Hills...she was a wonderful teacher, and lady. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this difficult time. She will live forever in our hearts!!

I have wonderful memories of Mrs. Barkeen and her singing class at Western Hills Elementary from 1962 through 67.  She was one of my favorite teachers and helped instill a live long love of music.  Rest in Peace, Mrs. Barkeen.

My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.  Mrs. Barkeen was my elementary school music teacher.  She was such an inspirational person and instilled a love of music in me that still thrives today.  What an amazing life she must have had after 98 years.  Rest in peace.  We who knew you well will always remember "ta ta tee tee ta, tee tee tee tee ta ta".
