Richard Martinez, 87, ascended to heaven to be with Jesus on December 26, 2018 after a long battle with his illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle, ultimately giving him peace.
Richard was born in Walsenburg to the late Ben and Mary, where he was the youngest of 9 children. He met his wife of 67 years, Lorraine Martinez, at a dance where they fell in love at first sight. They had four children, the late Gina, Richard, Linda, and John. He has four grand children and five great grandchildren. From early on, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the relationship with Christ, leading his family and others to do the same. Richard taught all of us with patience, discipline and humility.
Richard displayed Christs' love and served thru his ministry of giving to those in need. He provided food and clothing to the homeless and took care of mentally disabled for many years.
We all hope to be a reflection of Christ that Richard was able to show to everyone he met.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a new or gently used winter coat be donated at the service or donations can be made at the following link https://www.coloradocoalition.org/donate-now where we will be donating the coats to continue Richard's ministry.
The family would like to invite you to a reception to celebrate Richard Martinez's life immediately following the service. Cash bar and food is provided.
