

Dr. Seymour Loftman was born in Fairfield District in the Parish of Manchester, Jamaica, September, 6 1927. He was the 5th child of James Henry Loftman and Eliza Isadore Loftman. He was predeceased by siblings, Beryl, Kenneth, Howard, Lucille, Myrtle, and stepson James. He is survived by wife Iva Loftman, and children Patricia, Pamela, Paula, Celeste, Sharon, and Pamela.
Dr. Loftman was born into a family of educators, and his young formative years was spent traversing the island of Jamaica as his father completed his assignments as Inspector of Schools for the government. While growing up as a child he spent most of his holidays on his family property in Resource District in Manchester, Jamaica. As a consequence of his father's job he lived in various parts of Jamaica such as Lambs River, Four Paths, Fairfield, Port Maria and eventually Kingston in 1935.
While in school he was very fond of physics. He completed his bachelor's degree in physics in 1954. He enrolled the same year in Howard's Dental School and graduated with honors in 1958. He was recipient of two graduate school awards, the best student in Operative (Restoration) Dentistry, and Children's Dentistry. Upon graduation Seymour was also elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Honor Society. He was one of three dental students to be recognized with honors in 1958.
Dr. Loftman joined 801st Medical Group (SAC) in 1958 and served as a Medical Officer at Lockbourne Airforce Base, Ohio. He served for two years. Dr. Loftman returned to his home country Jamaica in 1960 and practiced dentistry until 1978 when he relocated to Kansas City, Missouri. He retired in 1994 and relocated to Denver, Colorado in 1999.
He was always involved in his community. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He started his Omega Journey in September 1945 and was initiated in the fall of 1946. Between 1960 and 1978 Seymour was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Kingston, Jamaica, and continued his involvement in Kiwanis when he relocated to the US. Most recently he was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Aurora.
Dr. Loftman has been married to Iva for 38 years and always spoke proudly of his family, especially his grand-children and great grandchildren.
