Today, with our hearts filled with love and gratitude, we celebrate the admirable and remarkable life of Spices Marie Simpson, whose warmth, laughter, and wisdom touched the lives of all who knew her. Spices lived a life defined by faith, loyalty, and compassion for others.
Spices was born in Huntsville, Texas, on March 16, 1965, to her parents, Billy R. Jones and Robbie L. Jones. She was the firstborn of seven children: one brother, Billy R. Jones Jr., and five sisters, Cashundra, Vanessa, Teki, Elissa, and Lajuana.
On November 17, 1983, her life was forever changed as she gave birth to her beloved daughter, Candice Marie Simpson. She later went on to have three more remarkable, strong, and outstanding children: Steffano Simpson, Treyvion Simpson, and Elijah Simpson.
In 2003, while at work, she met Lynn Gleason. Their connection blossomed into love, and they were united in marriage on August 14, 2004. Over the years, Spices became a loving and devoted grandmother to her cherished grandchildren: Trevon Cunningham, Treana Cunningham, Jeremiah Muniz, Isaiah Muniz, Jaylon Sivetts, Amari Denton, Ezra Castrejon, Shayron, and her newest addition, Arzo.
Spices’ calling was to serve the Lord and walk in His purpose—setting aside her own desires to align her life with God’s will. Although her dedicated journey with Christ began at Unity Church of God in Christ in Denver, she later became a devoted member of Colorado Christian Fellowship, a place she called home for more than a decade.
Her commitment to Christ was unwavering. In 2015, she attained her TPM, and on December 15, 2017, she was ordained into ministry. Her devotion extended beyond her local church as she faithfully served with The Glory Hub, where her leadership and service will leave a lasting impact for years to come.
Spices was a devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures and lived each day with purpose and love.
Her strong values of faith, hard work, and dedication to family defined her life. She was the glue that held her family together—the one everyone turned to, the one who made big problems seem small, the one who made every gathering brighter, and the one whose love was felt in every room she entered.
To her friends and loved ones, Spices was known as loyal, generous, and deeply loving. Her friendships were a gift, enduring through every season of life. She had a special way of bringing people together, reminding us all that family is not only defined by blood, but also by the people we choose to love and hold close.
Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her husband, Lynn Gleason; her children: Candice, Steffano, Treyvion, and Elijah; her grandchildren: Trevon, Treana, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Amari, Ezra, Castrejon, Jaylon, Shayron, and Arzo; her in-laws: Joshua Muniz, Jay Sivetts, Nathan Cunningham, Paloma Simpson, Ana Cardona, Oscar Mateos, Melissa, Oscar, and Derian Castrejon Vasquez; her parents, Billy R. and Robbie Jones; her sisters: Cashundra, Vanessa, Teki, Elissa, and Lajuana; Auntie Ann; cousins Belinda and Wendell; nieces Deja, Mika, and Jucy; nephews Tolley, Neveh, Johnny, Timothy, and Jayden; along with a host of other family members, beloved friends, and acquaintances near and far.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Billy R. Jones Jr.; her grandparents, Eliza J. Simpson and Robert L. Simpson; her uncle, Charles M. Smith Jr.; and her cousins, Mary Holmes and Vassie Houston.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed.” — Proverbs 31:25–28 (NIV)
